    convereting sbc to roller lifters

    can someone tell me the difference between a standard and offset lifter used on sbc, i am intrested in converting over to a roller set up on my blown 350, i understand the use of connected lifters saves me the problem of welding the bosses into the block, but not clear on offset lifters, any help would be helpfull. thanks[/b]

    All of your 23 degree headed sbc engines typically uses a standard lifter. Most all of the 18, 15, & 13 degree etc. headed sbc engine uses an off set lifter. Which means that the push rod pocket is not in the center of the lifter and usually on the intake lifter. This helps in keep the push rod as straight as possilbe to the rocker arm. And when you get into the 18 & less degree heads they require an off set rocker also. This is all done also to get the push rod away from the intake ports so they can be made bigger.

    Like TS1955 said, but there are a number of 23* heads that do take an offset lifter and also a an offset rocker. EX: i have a set of Brodix 10's 23* that takes a .180 offset lifter and .250 offsst rocker. As TS1955, it's because the ports are so big the pushrod won't clear the intake port. There's probably more, but i only have the Brodix 10's as as example. As i understand it most of the higher flowing 23* heads do have to use the offset lifters and the offset rockers. the Brodix 10's that i have flow close to 320 CFM at .700 lift int.

    Thanks for the info Zip. I didn't know some 23 degree motors used off set lifters.
