Default afr heads

Im building a 400sbc it .30 over setup for 11-11.5:1 comp turning 6700-7000rpm now i found a good deal on afr heads except there 195cc runner wit 2.05/1.60 would that be too small to feed the 400 or not ive seen decent dyno sheets bringing 560hp at the fylwheel but i want more towards 600 would it be reachable with those heads

AFR and most head mfrs would probably tell you these are too small for your application. AFR suggests 180 runners for 327-350 small blocks and 195 for 383-400 motors, but for street motors. You might be able to get by if the heads are heavily ported. I think they will run out of air on top end. I am running a set of 180 AFRs on a 406 but only because they were on a 355 and my car totalled in a fire. Check out AFR's website. I found their tech line very good. Great heads. Good luck. Mep

If your going to be using a hydraulic roller cam, the 195 heads will be a great fit. The 195 heads are capable of making 600 hp

as little as 15 years ago, people were still making a 157cc double 461 ir 041 head casting make that type of power and never see 195cc'slet alone with a 2.05 intake valve thrown in. those heads with the proper cam, intake and carb will run very well
