If it is showing signs of wear replace it with a new one. They are pretty cheap. Most use a bronze gear as a sacrificial piece so that the cam gear doesn't wear out on roller cams. Have never run a solid flat tappet cam myself so I don't know if it is needed for sure, I don't know what the cam core is made of.
