Default I94 Tollway in Illinois

How about this. The Tollway authority anounced today that they just installed speeding cameras on the tollway. I might use the tollway maybe once a year. Now here is the real bite. They have installed these cameras to keep speeders at bay, but if the cameras record a speeder going 1 mile over the speed limit, the fine is $375.00 the 1st time, I didnt read anymore after thatbecause that was enough to scare me to not use our tollway system regularly. Just thought I would pass it on to any out of towners.

We're getting more and more intersection monitored by camera and I live in a small town compaired to most big city's. It's only gonna get worse!
I have no problem with safety, but at some point 1 mile an hr over on a tollway is ridicules.

I don't know how other states handle speeding, but the PA state police give you a little leeway over the limit. They'll never say what the amount is, but it's probably in the 5-6 mph range.
There is a small town near me that was plagued with vandalism, home break-ins and such. They mounted cameras throughout the town and the police have caught many of these low-life's because of the cameras and it's lowered the crime rate substantially.

I agree, the 1 mph over the limit is extreme, but there is another side of the coin which is a benefit to property owners.

this state has become a tax whore. I own a dump truck , the past couple of years its hard to make it through a day without getting harrased by one police department or an other. last week I had a job hauling busted concrete that took me through four suburbs here, every village had truck harassers on the same route to the crusher,I felt like I was running a gauntlet. if they cant get you on weight they will try to nit pic you on something else. Were underloading trucks when were hauling any dirt, busted concrete or anything else that comes off construction sites. last year I lost my ass with the truck due to lack of work and this year is turning out to be the same if not worse! the police are like vampires trying to suck blood out of a dead corpse.

the great state of ILL. ops: ---starting JUNE 15/2010--if you pull ANY enclosed trailer with a name of anykind advertised on the side[it is then considered a commercial vehicle] SO-YOU HAVE TO HAVE A cdl license to pull it/have to have all DOT tags on it/ and if it has over 5 gallons of fuel in cans in the trailer it has to have HAZMAT TAGS ops: ops:

WE HAVE NOT GOTTEN A STRAIGHT ANSWER OUT OF ANYONE ON THESE NEW RULES ,YET----BUT THIS WILL MAKE THE STATE OF ILLINIOS A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY AND STOP ALOT OF RACERS FROM HAVING ENCLOSED UNITS :? :?

FROM THE CORRUPT/MONEY HUNGRY/OBAMANATION STATE OF ILLINOIS--LIVELY

My area is getting really bad with home invasion and people getting killed!!

Ga. is usually 9-10 over on interstates. I usually go 5, but around Atlanta you will get your azz run over if you go the speed limit!!!!!!!!!!!! I pull through downtown Atlanta quite often, but try to go through late at night.

No speeding Camera's here yet where I live. This is socialism!! Whom ever voted the officials who pawned that crap off need to be removed from office. They would all love us to drive electric cars that top out at 57mph... so they can still write the tickets for 55mph. I am so sick of this crap getting handed down to us!!!

I've talked about this for years to some of my racing buddies. For some reason a lot of guys think you can put "Not for Hire" or "Recreational use Only", or "RV" on the side of your race trailer and you are exempt from the DOT. NOT TRUE in any way shape or form. I had this conversation with a friend of mine a week before he got a ticket from the N.C. DOT.
He has a 40' goosneck that he hauls two trucks in. It has 3x5,000lb axles. He recieved a ticket for being overloaded on the rear axle of his truck and the front axle of his trailer. $790 fine. Jaosn told the police officer what I have heard some other guys say to tell them. " We were just out trail ridding, no money involved. The officer never aksed him about that nor did he slow down when Jason told him this. The officer did a decent DOT check of all lights, blinkers and thread dept on all his tires. He never opened or asked what was inside the trailer. Good thing he didn't cause there probably was 20 gals of race fuel in it!! HAZMAT license need for more than 10 gals.!!
The officer could have given him several more tickets including improper class of license.
A class C (regular license, turn yours over and read this on the back) is Any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating not in excess of 26,000 pounds, any such vehicle towing a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating not in excess of 10,000 pounds, any such vehicle towing a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating in excess of 10,000 pounds, provided that the combination of vehicles has a gross combined vehicle weight rating not in excess of 26,000 pounds, and any self-propelled or towed vehicle that is equipped to serve as temporary living quarters for recreational, camping, or travel purposes and is used solely as a family or personal conveyance.

With a 3 axle trailer (5,000lb per axle trailer) his max trailer weight is 15,000. Well above what he can haul with a class C license and also above the trailer towing capacity of his chevy dually (13,000lbs). And a trailer with a 15,000lb capacity is also above the total combined GCWR of
of the truck which is only 22,900lbs! (GVWR is 9,900lbs+ max trailer capacity of 13,000lbs) ( Crew cab, long bed, 2 wheel drive)

Long post I know, but just because you can hook to it and haul it does not mean it is anywhere near legal.

The DOT is over every vehicle that hits any road anywhere any time. And every vehicle / motorcycle has a weight limit PER AXLE and you can not over load any axle even if you total weight is below what the trailer can haul.

At some point we will see more and more states stopping enclosed trailers, (no matter if it's commercial or not it doesn't matter and if it's over 10,00lbs it's considered commercial anyway!) and checking them.

Their are also lenght max's. but they vary from state to state.

Hope this help you from getting a ticket in the future.
