Are you sure that the casting number is not 361959 instead of 861959??

I found that the 361959 is a 454 block that was used in the 73-75 Chevelle--73-76 Passanger car I believe--and the 75-85 Truck LD.

Are you sure it isn't 361959? If it is, it is a 454 between 73-90.

Default block casting number corrected, 361959

The first number was a 3 instead of an 8, can you tell me if it is a tall deck? Thanks alot, Rob. Toward the center of the block is alo has GM 10 T. I need to order a distributor for it and want to make sure I get the correct length.

its a 454 from 1973-90 could be a 2-bolt or 4-bolt, all 454's are 9.8" deck height, (except bowties).

Buy a distributor with a slip collar and you won't have to worry about it.

I believe T stands for the Tonawanda assembly factory, not Truck.

Quick and easy check, look at the front of the block where the water pump mounts, if the top of the water pump mounting surface is within 3/16" from the deck it's a short deck 9.8. If the mounting flange is about 7/16" to the deck it's a 10.2
No matter what the casting #'s are.
