sbc heads
I have a street s-10. 383 stroker, with 700r4 and 342 gears. hyd roller with about 560 lift and 230 strraight across at 50. lsa is 110. I have a set of performer rpm 170 heads and matching intake, with a 750 holly. msd dist. Are these heads flowing enough air? I shift at around 6000 which seems to be the limit for power. My track is at 5500 feet and the air is generally around 7000. My machinist tells me that these heads flow about like the vortecs and probably are holding me up.???

Probably so, I had a set of performer RPM's on a 358 sbc I bracket raced years ago, max rpm I got was around 6800, but that could of been due to my hydralic cam.
I'm sure with a solid roller and a spring change you could get more out of them.
If your dead set on upgrading though - get some dart 220cc iron eagles platinum heads, they are great out of the box, with some port work, even better.

thanks guys..I do appreciate the input. I don't want to go too big as I will lose the low end response and would need a looser torque converter. Looks like more will be better though. Thanks

In my opinion only... I think 215s would be just right for your question,
I had 215s on my 383 dirt circle track engine, and they worked perfect for bottom end torque off the corners, and still at 7600 rpm et the end of the straights. I had tired 230s on the veyr same engine and they fell flat on their face in the corners.

The heads are definately limiting you. I would also agree., that a 215 head would be good, if your buying new heads. They can grow with you, and are not to big. I have even used 230 Pro-1's a bunch of times on engines that most would say were to big for. One was a hyd. roller 383, that the guy bought all the parts for out of summit, had a short block built, and bolted it all together. He had some issues with the valve train, so, he took the heads off, I ported them to enhance flow without making them much bigger, chamber work, valve job, back cut, bowl abd short turn work, and ex. port. Picked the intake flow up almost 30 cfm, without taking much more than 5 cc out of the runner. By default, the velocity was way up, more flow thru the same sized hole. It was a tire fryer. Another one was a 380 inch destroked 400, with 230's, fully ported, to about 245cc, pump gas, solid roller. made 620hp on engine, ran low 10's on motor, and 8.80's on the bottle. No shortage of low end
