Default slowing a motor down!

I recently bought a dragster.. runs mid 7's @ 178 i was in a low 10 door car. So quite a differance here. I snuck in the car before i bought it my first pass was 10.0 then 7.88 then 7.70 - All out lic pass was 7.59 and 7.58
If i wanted to slow the ET and MPH down to say low 8's till i get more comfortable/ experiance what would be the best way?
Then after a im comfortable i can let it rip.

Thanks in advance
Keith

If you want the one step answer. Change the rear gears. If it has 4.10 in it a 3.70 ratio will tame it down every where. You will be glad you only change the gears when you get bored after the 20th pass in that condition, I will bet.

Default Slowing it down

Thanks... Another reason is one track near me has a short shutdown - and pulling the chute every time can be a pain. So if i can get it going 7.90's i think it would be better at that track .. till i get comfortable stopping the thing. I had no problems with my passes so far- feels like it moves around a little . So far the track i have been to has a long shutdown too.

I agree with what Bruce is saying with the gear on the Hit......but
if you drop it from a 4.10 to a 3.70 and you got any kind of motor ( and by the sound of your et/mph you do).....that 3.70 gear is gonna run it out the back door pretty hard...and most likely gonna increase your MPH.

I run a 3.70 gear in a ALL NOS car......on Motor pass its a very mild hit..1.38 60 ft....but come the 300 ft mark you better have those grapefruits ducttaped real tight...cause it comes out of Nowhere and goes into a freaking TIME WARP.. ....we will not even get into the NOS pass.

i would trying Knocking timing out of it to begin with.....Good luck...

You could also try adjusting the throttle linkage.

Pull some timing out of it.

Or just let me tune on it a while. Should have it slowed down a second or two. LOL

What's wrong, all you guys have too much money to spend? Just bolt a 1 1/2" (AKA 2X4) wooden block under the peddle, it'll still run hard and slow it down to the 8's for sure and will still have the same hard pull until the top end. $.003 VS $250.00 gears.

Zipper's wooden block, or pull out some timing. Much cheaper than changing gears.

You can definetly tell the budget racers by their replies....lol

A trusty old wooden block under gas pedal, pull timing out, fab up a stop for the throttle linkage with spare parts, all FREE.
I've done just about everything mentioned at one point or another.

OR

Just change gears out ($250 min) AND or buy a programable throttle stop set up ($1000>up)
