Default 396 build help

looking for a combo for a 396 for street use. what i have is a 67 396 wiht dome pistons. factory crank. have one of the original closed chamber heads now. but the other was bad. i bought good set of 71 open chamber heads to replace. would it be profitable to run open chambers with domes. also the motor is going to be bored .30 over. would this be an ok build.

bore .30 over
.30 over domes
open chamber heads
280 or so camshaft

I had a BBC396, small dome, maybe .125 with closed chamber heads it had around 11 to 1 compression, 305 magnum cam, weiand team G, 750 double pumper.

It was all torque, shifted @ 5300 with a T400 and a 456 gear, it ran 7.50's to 740's in the 1/8 with short times in the 150 range.

Mine was all strip but it wouldnt of took much to make it a street machine, slap on some muffs mount a set of Et streets and make a gear change you were there.

If I were you I'd stay with the closed Chamber heads for the simple fact it will keep your compression up, unless you have a big pop up piston your gonna kill the compression with a open chamber head.

I have a set of 215 closed chambers for sale. I think they are 67 year model.
