602 chevy crate timing

602 chevy crate timing
:?: What is the best timing to run in a 602 crate, GM says 32 deg. max, but I know guys running 38 deg. with good results.....I heard 40 plus will burn the pistons......any help is appreicated.

take er to the track experiment and see what gives you best mph...but off hand quick answer is cylinder pressure will dictate where u can go.if its ten to one compression then perhaps 35-38 all in timing is ball park.where as same identical motors but bump up compression to 13:1 then max might only be 33 because with more compression you dont need more advance.same goes with nitrous hence retarding motor on the spray
