Default 4l60 help

4l60e lost od a few thousand miles ago, i just drive it in d instead... If you put it in od and try to drive it after about 20mpg something starts grabbing and slows the tranny down. But since i put it in d it runs fine. Can you tell me what i should expect to be toasted in it?

This is in a stock application

Thanks, keith

My boss has a very similar problem a couple yrs ago, believe or not it was the fuel filter. This is no joke, it would slip into OD and fall on it's face, wouldn't go over 60mph. Not saying this is your problem, but it could also be the trans filter.

Thanks zip! I think its worse, i think there is a band applying that shouldnt when it goes in second that is o.d. related.... If i put it in o.d. and take off, at about 20mph something grabs in the tranny and will actually stop the truck....Put it in d and keep on goin... I was also thinking the o.d. clutches could be welded together and are suppose to freespin when in second? i dunno

Before this happened did you notice if the tranny was struggling to shift into second and when it goes in did it shift really hard???What year is the vehicle and is it 2 or 4 wheel drive? Sound like the convertor lock-up but might be electrical trouble depending on what year it is.

2nd and OD uses the same band, just a different piston that applies. Usually OD starts slipping and 3rd stays fine for a while, but will go out too. Anyway you go, your going to be looking at a rebuild. The EPC (electronic pressure control) soleniod usually goes down causing a low pressure condition that will help smoke the clutches. This can and will cause different things to occur in the tranny. Only my 2 cents and times spent with them. I had 1 that had all the gears in OD but would go to neutral in low gear. And in was the EPC. I hope it's something simple but sounds like bigger problems.

It is a 1993 z71, it was rebuild supposable with a shift kit, it has always had a rock hard 1-2 shift that i hate.... but it still does fine 1-2 and 2-3 if you leave it in d. If i drive it 4 over say a hour, i have put it in od and it works fine until it cools off?

Any other help?

I dunno, i think im just gonna swap to the 4l80 now that it has a solid axle under the front.
