Default dimension difference between big and small block chevy

besides the weight of the big block is the overall width or length different between them. car had a small block with front plate and looking to go bigblock. thanks

They are a lot wider. It is the cylinder heads more so than the block.

They are also @ 3-4" longer in front of motor mounts. I switched mine a couple seasons ago & everything bolts up the same except the front is now closer to the radiator.

so the clearance to the firewall is the same its the front that changes. my car came with a small block plate. do i alter that or just buy a new one

Just thinking, sometimes you are able to cut out the front plate to accomodate the BB. sometimes not depends how the first is made.
