I felled trees bigger than that for several years, here in the Idaho mountains. Believe me, there is NO little ol' human bean who is gonna 'push' on a tree that size to alter it's course to the earth !
Excluding wind, wet soil, cable or chain, most trees have about a 120 degree fall path. I don't care what you do or how deep you cut the notch, the upper limb weight and trunk growth pattern will dictate this fall path.
This guy just plain missed reading the tree. I can see you guys with experience nodding your heads!!!

Need to remodel the house anyway, might as well let the insurance pay for it.
Insurance won't pay for that. Several years ago I had a tree next to my house that needed to go. A friend that was quite good with a chainsaw offered to drop it for me. I checked with my homeowners first and they said they wouldn't cover any damage that I (or my friend) caused and if I hired a professional to make sure they had their own insurance. I paid an insured pro to drop it.
