I made my first pass in 1982. In Hobbs NM. I won the race and was hooked. First place was a 1 foot tall trophy. It only took 24 years to win a real one, Wally.
When was your first pass down the strip?

1981 at the same track I race at today. It was called central michigan dragway then and was run by the Howe family. I had a 72 cutlass supreme with a built up 350 Rocket and managed a 13 something et. Then fatally removed the edelbrock air cleaner and did not align the base properly when I reinstalled it. The throttle stuck wide open when it restarted and ballooned the B&M converter on the spot and ended my day. I have raced every year since but 88 thru 91 and thankfully gave up the dam Oldsmobile brand once and for all in 2001.

Default First race

First time down the track was in 1970 in my 68 Roadrunner. Ran a 13.10 and went out in the first round. That was at Beeline Dragway in Arizona. Track is long gone I imagine.

It was 1978 at US 131 Martin Dragway in Martin Michigan same place i race now but none of it is the same. The track had a total redo in 2002. Had a '68 Camaro with a small block it was all show and no go. Drove the car to the track proceeded to break off most of the collector bolts taking off the mufflers and got stopped by the cops on the way home and got a fix it ticket. Loved it. Hooked for ever.

1981 @ the old Gateway international Raceway in Madison, Illinois. If I remember I was sporting a 14 or 15 second ride and I thought I was bad to the bone. LOL

1978 at Emonton International Speedway, in my daily driver, a 1973 Ford F-150 with a 428 Cobra Jet. I think I ran in the high 13's. if I remember correctly. The track is long gone and so is the truck. That was 8 kids and 8 grandkids ago.

Default first pass

First trip down the track. June, 1973, my old 67 Mustang automatic car. They stuck me in D/MP because I had a Holley Carburetor on it. Otherwise it was a bone stock 289. I got destroyed.

Instead of being discouraged, it motivated me to learn. I guess I'll say I never really got better at racing but did have better equipment from that point on. Also, sought out people smarter than I was and tried to learn all I could.

Got a feeling, once I get a car back on the track. It may be alot like 1973 all over again, LOL! Finally got my Nova back from my buddies shop last nite.
