Default driveshaft length, is to long bad???

Just got an 80 malibu, it had a v8 swap and now has a th400 in it, i went to pull the driveshaft and had a hard time getting it out, it would not slid far into the tranny, I think they used the original drive shaft, my question is, Is the shaft to far in the tranny a bad thing? i know i can have it shortend but i was just curious. there is a little play forward but not much !

YES!!!IT IS BAD!!!

I did that with a TH 400 and all I did was back it out of the garage ONE TIME....I didn't know it until later, but it busted the center support on the trans case on the inside and pushed everything fwd into the crank ...So I ruined a short shaft 400 case and the thrust on my crankshaft. I hope you have not hurt yours. How I found mine was,My tranny started slipping and when I went to remove it, the crank slid back and forth when I removed the torque converter bolts.....I was 18 years old at the time. I learned lots of things the hard way. Get that shaft out of there.

Keep an eye on your oil filter for bearing material...I honestly only had mine in long enough to move it in and out of the garage...I had swapped from a 350 to a 400 and the driveshaft just barely fit...I hope for your sake you didn't hurt it.
