Default Turbo on my 350- how much boost...

I have a stock 350 bottom end, 4 inch bore, 3.48 inch stroke, cast pistons, powdered rods, cast crank. Motor with 76 cc heads stock was 8.5:1, with the 64 cc heads Im guessing 9.3:1 to 9.5:1. Wanting to put a Garrett GTA42 75 mm turbo on the beast. Ive been told to lock out my distributor, lower my timing to 28-32 degrees, use water/methanol injection, and 8 lbs of boost max or the engine will detonate and melt the pistons. Is all this info correct so far? Anybody got any useful tips or words of guidance? Thanks.

My opinion would be to slow down and research the turbo setup. I doubt its going to work with your application. There's not a $100.00 part to make a stock engine make 700 hp. IMO you should leave the turbo alone for now.

I got some advise > don't do it.
Powered metal rods, all cast internals etc, all are border line stuff for even a mild rebuild let alone a turbo.
You need to build the motor around a turbo not the other way around.
