Default Manually down-shifting a th350-good or bad?

I bought a th350 that has ~1k on a performance rebuild. On the receipt that came with the trans, it says not to down shift from 3rd. Is this a normal practice with these transmissions? I will be manually shifting the trans fwiw. I apologize if this is a newbie question, I am just getting familiar with the gm trans. Thanks guys.

I know it is hard on the sprag to downshift if you are going very fast.
I was told if you downshift do it easy and at a very slow speed.
A friend broke his sprag doing it all the time in a Trans Am, He kinda treated it like a stick shift..

Don't mean to hi-jack the trend..

lol as far as the engine in the bed. The new tires and carb are coming around. 1.41 average 60' with the rear wheels and a best of 1.37.
New best time of 6.11@110 and I think it is running out of fuel on the last 1/3 or so of the track...
