Default questions about nitro cars

i was at the chevy show at palm beach international raceway and saw some nitro funny cars in action!! now unlike top fuel and some other operations i have seen it seemed like nitro cars were all teams that were owned by small business owners and some middle class guys!! are these like top fuel motors that they are rebuilding after every run or what?? i am really interested in the nitro class now cause it seems like something that doesnt have to be sponsered by fram or napa or these big companies and i was extremly impressed!

Default Nitro cars

If you want to run nitro funny cars, you'd better have very good sponsors or very deep pockets. They're as expensive to run as the top fuel rails. Same engines etc. Shorter wheelbase and a body.

Default Nitro cars

Are you talking about pro mod cars? They are cheaper to run , but still expensive. Alot of family run teams have some sponsors, and they keep the expenses down where they can.

You shouldn't be too impressed or confused by the Super Chevy show cars, most of them are as you said running B/BLK chevy engines and are paid in by super chevy, Most of them are running less than 50% nitro to keep the maintenance down on the motor. True they are crown pleasers, but would be nowhere near competative on the NHRA or IHRA tour. that et and speed translates to a 6. second run it the 1/4 mile on the tour nitro funny and dragsters run 3.00 to 3.20 @ 250/280 in the 1/8 mile. They are what they are and that's show cars for the crowd. Over here at Baton Rouge super chevy a few weeks ago, there were 2 local promod cars running 3.80's and 3.90's, one of them a Hearst with a carbon fiber body, but both had Hemi's.

Zip.

my son worked on Josh Starcher's team a few years back. He said he can remember Starchers dad say it cost 1.5 million for his son to race each year on the NHRA circuit and they were on a very tight budget.
