    4.5"Stroke crank in stock 454 block

    Doing a little thinking (which can lead to trouble), is it possible to put a 4.5" crank in a stock 454 block? Is it worth the trouble? If possible, how much work will it take? Thanks for any input.

    Nope. 4.25 is about it. Go .060 over with a 4.25 stroke for 496.

    :shock: How much time you got on your hands and are you good with a grinder? What cubic inch are you after. If you're going big which it sounds i would start with a Dart block.JMO

    Thanks, didn't really have . plans set in stone. Looking to the future and thought I'd see how far a stock block could be pushed. I was kinda hoping it would work, would be cool to have a stock looking motor with much bigger cubes than appears

    you can build it to a 496 but have a $hit load of compresion to raise
    the hspwr and throw in a huge cam, and with the 4.25 crank, a
    13 to 1 comp and that bbc would rock, or you can go the way
    beast said the dart block come ready notched for the 4.5 crank
    and can be bored wider than 4.310, i think it can go to 4.5 not sure
    but good luck and have fun when your building it make sure you
    make hotrod sounds when your fitting your crank and pistons,
    like " Rawwwww Rawwwwww" and when someone ask, you tel
    them thats what its going to sound like, ha :wink:

    If I make those sounds, is that gonna give me a few more horses? Or do I have to stop working and pretend to shift too.

    This got me thinking to. The 4.250 crank will work in the stock BBC but can you put sleeves in and bore it to 4.500 or 4.600? Is it possible to build a 540ci(4.250 crank/4.500 bore) or 565ci.(4.250 crank/4.600 bore) engine with a stock block?
    Ya I know it'll probably cost more than a Dart block but lets not think about the money side of it for now.

    my machinest told me that .30 over max without a sleeve, .60 max
    with a sleeve anything over even with a sleeve not recommended,
    and you have to fill the block, i went 4.310 and if i wanted bigger
    i would purchase the merlin or dart, you have more work involved
    with rod/crank clearance for the 4.5 stroke on the standard 454, the
    other after mkt blocks....come ready :wink: 8)
    and the car goes.."rawwwwwww rawwwwwwww"
