Fellas (and ladies),
I am into my first attempt at a larger cubic inch Chevy and need cam advice. My block is an older Donovan 11.100 that cannot be bored for large cam journals. Engine will be used in lighter dragster with powerglide and 33 inch tall tires. Estimated total weight 1650 lbs (???)
Engine specifics are 652" BBC with 18 degree Dart Big Chiefs with full CNC port and titanium vlaves (2.400 /1.900). Compression at 15/1. Crank is 5.100 stroke.Bore is at 4.510. I would like to run 2 Dominators on sheet metal intake (gas- no nitrous). I would like help with a cam selection and don't need something that will "kill" the springs and valvetrain. Basically, my hope is to come out with a large inch, lightweight package that makes good power without having to turn the unit excessively. I am OK with sacrificing some power in trade for reliability.

Hello, I have built many big chief 622, 632, 706 BBC engines. Most of them with sheetmetal or cast tunnel rams with 2X4 4500 carbs. I use Erson or Comp cams mainly and most of the time custom grinds. Here is a grind I use often for a 622, 12 Degree, 2X4, dry sump, natrually aspirated drag race engine, corrected dyno figures for this engine are 1260HP & 925ft/lbs. Cam is mechanical roller, 4-7 swap, Duration @ .050": INT288/EXH308, Lobe Lift: INT.495"/EXH.475", Lobe Separation Angle: 114. Thanks.

Actually I do have some custom grind Erson cams on the shelf. If you are looking for a custom cam that will perform in a large cubic inch displacement BB Chevy with big chief style heads, I have another spec grind that I work specifically with Erson on and this particular grind has a lobe design that is less aggressive and more spring and valve train "friendly". I have many hours in R&D on the dyno with different cam profiles and this is one of my favorites. This cam is used in 14 & 18 degree Dart big chief 572-605-632 bracket engines. Cam specs are: 4-7 Swap Firing Order, Duration @ .050": INT284/EXH298, Lobe Lift: INT.475"/EXH.450", Lobe Separation Angle: 114. These cams are in stock ready to be shipped. Thanks for all the input. I bought this car from the second owner and it weighed in at 1350 with an iron small block and driver. Car is a 250" RED that was built in Bob Meyers shop and is a 100% knock-off of Rick Santos legendary small block alcohol machine. Mag floater rear,no paint and black anodized panels to keep weight in check.
BTW..I'm offerring my 1st motor I built for the car but never used. If anyone wants a great 565 Big Chief (1021 hp /795 ft.lbs) give me a shout (or search 565 Big Chief on this site) I've just got the hanker'in to go a bit faster and the aluminum motor appeals to me.

Tom, how fast you looking to go with the 652 ? that 565 would of been very fast also, 1020hp @ my 2000lbs would go 7.4's . Where is danville at ? I am on the mich/ind line

Tom nice looking 565ci..just curious,,ya got a Nos cam or something in that 565ci...1021hp seems a little low on that engine with those Big chief heads...i am thinking 1140 to 1150 ?
