Default Reverse Valve body/shifter

Help me understand the reverse valve body, what it does, & how it works... I believe that is what I have. I must shift my TH350 manually to properly downshift & i always manual upshift. It came w/ that car I bought.
In addition, I see some shifters in Jegs say they are compatable with rev valve body. But some shifters say they are not compatable.. why? what does it have to do w/ the shifter? my shifter is a ZGate B&M says it is not compatable.. but as long as I manual shift, all is well. So what is the exact purpose of the reverse valve body?? Thanks!!

OK, so I must have a manual valve body... not a reverse... copy/roger/over & out.
