Default clear coat question

Can you spray clear over acrylic enamel. The acrylic enamel is a few years old and was wondering if the clear would shine it up and bring the paint back like new.I already have the clear coat is why i am asking. Thanks

You need to a very good job of scuff sanding the car. It will work but I can't express the importance of a good job of sanding. I would use a grey or green scuff pad with some scuff stuff jel or ajax etc.

If you are gona clear it you might as well just put a coat of base on too....but to do that you will have to sand the enamel and put a good urethane primer over it...base coat will lift the enamel( I think) I know for a fact that the base coat will lift laquer. At least every kind I have used will. This way you can block sand it and get it that much straighter..unless it is perfect already.

back in the day a. enamel was it. i love it. when its shot right its already glossy. but a old job that hass lost its gloss can usually be brought back to life if there was enough paint put on in the first place.there are 2 ways you can do it. one is to wet sand with 600 then 1000 or 1200 then buff it with a good compound or wet sand it with 1000 or 1200 shoot it with a high quality urethane clear, wet sand that with 2000 then 2500, buff that and presto shiny that looks deep.we do alot of that for customersthat have a old paint job(acrylic enamel) THAT STILL LOOKS GOOD JUST LOST ITS GLOSS.we have done it both ways and have not had a complaint yet
