Default How often do you "freshen" your engine?

I was wondering how often you guys freshen up your engine? Every year, every other year, as needed??? Typically what do you cover when you freshen it up? Also, how much does it cost you to do it?

Thanks

I freshen mine yearly but this is putting 200-300 passes on it every year also. When its freshened it gets new, rings, bearings, gaskets, valve job springs, and lifters. Cost to have someone do it usually between $2000-3000 this includes all parts, labor and dyno.

I put about 250 passes on mine before I go through it and that can be a couple seasons for me. Then it gets rings, bearings, wrist pins lifters and anything else that a close inspection reveals needs to be replaced. I check the heads and it gets new locks. I check the valve springs at least once a year and replace them as needed. If you run aluminum rods they typically need replaced at this time also. It really depends on how much power you make, how hard you rev it and what kind of parts you use.

I run a leak-down test on mine. when it goes over 10% we pull it out. Or 250 passes.

Golden rule #1...good parts..also Golden Rule #1..hire engine builder that knows what they are doing correct tolerances will also play a big factor on how long an engine lives.

check valves springs regular,,knock pressure of them in the off season..

one other thing in my opinion...Don't ever use the word Budget in the same sentence as Racing

If you have the "budget" for a 13 sec car, Don't try to build an 8 sec car.
