Pretty simple, unless things have changed over the years (got a REAL strong feeling they haven't). CUBIC DOLLARS! "Used to say at the Speed Shop, back in the day when there used to be speed shops, LOL. "How fast you wanna go, how much you got to spend"?
After spending all the money, "all you gots to do is tune both the motor AND the car".
Seriously, good luck. When I sought to get a car into the 10's, took alot of work and sweat and dollars. Parts are alot better today, bet it still takes a fair bit of sweat and work.

i would stay away from any type of manual water pump on a race engine or HP street engine..just for the fact if you throw a belt its gonna be bad news..plus the less drag on the crank equal HP

You can run what ever you want for fuel and water pumps, they just need to NOT leak, and support your power level.
What size bbc are we talking about here???????
I have a 505 goin 9.80's in a 3700 vehicle and if I hit it with two kits, I would go mid 8's, and I have the parts to back that power up
You will need a cage, certified belts and all the rest that goes for running 9's, pants, gloves, license, and you better have a brake upgrade on this car, 140 mph+ moves real fast on a short track
I would a say, imo, that a well built 460-468cuin with good heads, and a roller nitrous cam, you will almost hit 8's, that's if the engine is built for juice, and good exh. profile on the cam.
How many hp per hit are you talkin about also, 200 + 200 more??? if so, a setup like that should put you into the low 9's for sure, provided your chassis can hold it and when you apply the hot sauce too.
We need more info on your setup, but yes like the others say, it is very doable to hit 9's.. Good luck with it.

your compression should be perfect but how big is your cam?
you would need a HUGE lift ont he cam to get in the 9's but
with spray you might go faster, john cunningham ran a nove
on the pump gas drags, he had a bbc with 13:1 comp and
a .850 lift cam and he was the fastest on gas he ran 9:91,
only motor, you can see his car on a web site that did his front end 8)
