Horsepower Gain vs. Piston Weight
I have a 355 Chevy that has worn out acording to our track rules. Rule is "overbore of .030 only" I had to do another engine this year because of that rule. To throw away an engine that still has life left in it of .040 or .060 makes no sence to me. The weight of the pistons as they get larger will reduce the gain in horsepower of the overbore. I know this is a fact in the single cylander briggs 5 horse as I used to build them and dyno them. I purposly over bored a new engine to .010, .020, .030 and dynoed each time. There was no gain. Have any of you builders of the 8 cylander engine found any truth to this synerial? If so, I am going to petition my track to let the engines go to the .060 if need be. Sorry if there is spelling errors. Couldn't find spell check!!!
