Default How can you tell if you have a 355 or stroker motor

Just wanted to know if there is anyway to check a motor. I have two guys that have two motors. One I was told is a sbc 355 and the other is a 383 stroker. My question is can you look at the motor and tell if the motors are what they say they are.
Thank you.

usually you compare the harmonic balancer if they are stock balancers. the 383 will have the 400 balancer that has a long low part in it. the 355 one will be round all the way around.

only if it's been internally balanced on the 383. if it has an after market or sfi balancer you won't either.
