E.T.s
OK folks, I have what may very well be a dumb ??? My little altered seems to run anywhere from 5-15 m.p.h. slower than other cars running the same E.T. I donot understand why this is. The car normally runs 60 ft times in the 1.30s,and is pretty consistant. Hilborn stack injected 406 SBC with a glide that I footbrake.

could be a variety of things, what ets are your running?
you could be launching harder then the others,
too small of a carb,
too small exhaust,
ignition isnt timed all the way, keep running passes slowly bumping the timing up until you hit your fastest mph then you have the perfect timing for your combination.
you could have a torquier cam, a lower rpm powerband when others in your class have higher.
to much spoiler if you have one
to much gear like Tod said
etc....

Zipper is correct. There are some variables. I would guess you are running a glide. Where are you shifting at? Also, with injection, you will see a quicker 60 foot and ET due to the response of the injection. We ran enderle hat injection for several years. Saw 3-4 mph pickup going back to a carb but lost .15-.20 ET. Wide open our dragster ran 8.0's-7.90's at 170mph with 60 foot times at 1.15-1.16. Running a high gear set up( shifting the car at 0.10) we would run 8.60's at 168mph with 60 foot times of 1.40-1.42.

The tires are 33s. I am running a powerglide. Shift at 6500. I have been looking at a lunati roller, 630 something lift, and i forget the duration but it was a lot, 330 maybe but I forget. Any suggestions? What about headers, collector length etc. I hate to lose the zoomies, they look cool, and they sound gooood! But I will for a good cause, What about piston to valve clearence, Im running wisecos with i think .250 dome. If you need more info, ask and ye shall receive. thanks.

Try your shift point at 6800. That may bring your trap RPM down with your set up. I just don't think you are going to see a sbc bring the same mph that you will other cars running same ET's with BBC. That has always been 1 of the complaints of a few friends running sbc in their diggers.

I donot really want to go a bunch faster anyway. 8.90s would tickle me till I curled my toes. My wife might want to pick a fight, much faster than that. Or maybe i AM just yellow. A man has to know his limitations!
