Default Vortec 454 truck engine into a car.

Trying to get some opinions on installing a Vortec 454 truck engine in a street car. What is the main difference in a Vortec and an earlier 454. I thought the difference was the Vortec head, but can't seem to find much info on it. Being it is a truck engine, I think it is a raised block.

Pretty sure that the block is not machined to use a mech fuel pump

1 piece rear seal. The heads are similiar for intake ports as most other big ovals, with the exception of a swirl bump, next to the guide. The Exhaust port is a smaller D-port deal, with more short turn meat. The chamber is slightly better. As fas as the engine fitting, it will no issue. Like was said though, no provision for a mechanical fuel pump, which isn;t the end of the world. Otherwise, its a great street engine. With a bit of work to the heads, and a cam and intake, they make killer power

not wanting to jack the thread, but does the 454 vortec heads make power for this engine like the vortec did for the 350? there's also two diff. styles of 454 vortecs. which is better?

The engine is from a 1996 3500 Dually. Don't know whether that clarifies anything.

No, they don;t make a lot more power say against a 781 or 049 oval port, like a Vortech would against a 993 or 882 head. The improvements made to the heads, were more for part throttle tq, and emisions, due to imprvements in swirl, and mixture quality at part throttle. The hump next to the guide, and the chamber changes, help with that stuff, more than ultimate power. But, when modified, the heads work really well.
