Default SBC Small base roller cam question?????

I have a .900 base circle cam for my race motor I'm putting together and want to order some roller lifters. I was looking at cranes vertical bar and horizontal bar lifters. I was discussing it with a friend and he mentioned that the horizontal's won't work w/ the small base circle cam, if anyone truly knows please post. Thanks

A .900 base circle cam may need vertical bars, or may need taller lifters. I have an .850 in my 427 SB and had to go .300 tall on lifters, horizontals hit the block preventing the lifter from contacting the base circle.

What block are you using? If you are using the Dart or the Bowtie block then it will be tight, because I think they both use the 0.300 longer lifters. They sell roller lifters that are even longer for the short base circle cams $$$$. (I think that it was 450.00 for CompCams vertical bar lifters)

I put an engine together with the Crane horizontal spring loaded lifters and the Dart block and the springs were compressed almost completely. It turned about 7300rpm's for two years without problems. You have to be careful about the lifter compressing completely against the link plate, but not touching the cam lobe, therefore giving you more valve lash than what the feeler gauge shows.

Exactly. I bought Howard +.300 from Competition Products, about $300.00 and no issues.

I've used the standard crane horizontal bar lifters in a standard block with a .900bc cam with no problems

I also have a .900 base circle .625 lift that works on a factory block with horizontals. It is best to check before you buy, find someone with an old pair of lifters you can test fit. No sense spending money only to find it won't work.
