The car is too heavy for a glide. Also the th400 has a better 1st gear ratio and will stand up much easier I would think.

I have to disagree, the PG will ET better. The 5500 converter will launch the car quicker and the PG will not launch as violent as a TH400. The rotating HP required to turn the TH400 is 15 to 20 horses more. And 3500 lbs is NOT too much weight. Who ever told you that lied to you. I had a 3400 lb Chevelle with a reasonably mild 400 SBC and ran at least a tenth quicker than a TH350. A three speed (ultra light, ultra$) will be marginally faster than a PG in a Comp style car/engine tuned to a narrow RPM range. You will be much happier with the PG.

I AM LEANING TO THE 400 BECAUSE OF THE VERSATILITY AND I AGREE THAT IT WILL LAUNCH HARDER DUE TO THE 1ST GEAR . I KNOW IT WILL BE VIOLENT BUT THAT IS NOT A BAD THING. I AM GONNA INSTALL SOMETHING THIS WEEKEND AND GET THE CAR DONE. I APPRECIATE EVERYONES INPUT AS I AM AT ALOSS ON THIS ONE AND JUST WANT THE BEST COMBINATION. THE GLIDE IS A BETTER TRANS BUT I AM CONCERNED IT WILL NOT BE AS VERSATILE AS THE 400. THE 400 WILL LAUNCH HARDER AND I CAN CHANGE THE CONVERTER AND RUN THE 5500 IN THE 400 AND REALLY LAUNCH. I AM NOT TOO WORRIED ABOUT TRACTION AS THE CAR CARRIES A 1.23 60' WITH A 400 BEFORE, SO I DONT WANT TO LOOSE THAT BY GOING TO A GLIDE AS WELL AS BEING A NOS MOTOR I DONT WANT TO GO THRU THE TRAPS AT A VERY HIGH RPM. I WOULD LIKE TO STAY AT 7300-7400 . AGAIN THANKS TOO EVERYONE I APPRECIATE ALL THE INPUT, AND WILL BE WATCHING FOR THE NEW POST BEFORE I MAKE MY FINAL DECISION

Even with the 5500 converter in both the PG will be faster. It will use the power better and lose less in rotating HP.

why not just try em both before you decide. It isn't a big deal to swap out the trans.
