How to estimate new engine mileage?

When planning an engine build, how can one estimate potential fuel mileage? Thanks.

If you are building a race engine who cares as long as its fast
Water is for racing and asphalt is for getting groceries!!!!

    Way to many variables here.

Think you might want to tell us BB or SB, use of engine, alcohol or gas, NA or blown etc.

I could say it will get 100+ mpg but that is as silly as your post.

I have been happy with about 3 gallons per mile

that includes .driving to the lanes and making a pass and of course driving it back
