Default tall block

If it is a tall deck truck block i have seen them with a 4.5 stroke and 4.350 bore .100 over.I believe that makes it 535c.i.

If it is 454, I am guessing that it is not a truck block. I only have seen those in the 427 and 366 versions. If it is the 9.800 passanger car block in a truck, most of those will go .100 for sure they will all go .060 Truck block is basically the same except it is 10.200 tall. All truck blocks had 4 bolt mains to my knowledge.

See if you can get a casting number off it.

Some of those Marine Blocks in the Gn iv were BowTies and would go to a big bore of 4.560. They did have a BowTie on the side though.

To tell the trith I have never seen a 454 that would not overbore by .100. I have seen some though that a .125 bore was too big.

Maybe if you are hitting it with nitrous, the .100 over would be too much. I know that normal aspirated the 477 cu in was pretty well done a lot.

i DO NOT dispute what Ed says for one minute about the .125 boring..and i strongly recommend no more than .100..
HOWEVER...

I personally have and run a 454 passenger block with a 4.25 stroke and a 4.375 bore (511ci) ..and have no problems..this is .125 over by the way.
i have been told it would split, run hot...you name it i was told.....i realize its running on the ragged edge and its best not to go that far for insurance purposes...BUT i wanted to say it can and is done..i am proof of this..it may go boom tommrrow..but for now it runs great,,,good oil pressure, Sunday i made back to back passes in 82 degree heat and it never got above 185 degree's..

also i Do NOT run NOS but i do have 14 to 1 compression and about to convert to alcohol..

by the way my block is the 512 series.....

Note'- if it ever goes boom..i will not bore that large in future..

There was 427 truck blocks made in 66 and 67 that was sought after for the wall strength by the nitro guys. They where capable of going out .125 on gas or alky. They where usually found in dump trucks and school buses. They where all tall deck blocks.

I'm with Ed on this one, I've never seen a tall deck block that started out it's life as a 454, as far as i know they were all 427's and the others were 366's. I've bored them .125 over but that's on selected blks and sonic testing and moving the bore to the c/l of the thickest part of the hole.
But to be honest i would not build an engine for high performance with a sleeve in it either a dry or wet sleeve. I would look for another blk. Theres thousands of them out there in old school buses and old trucks. It's no problem to clear the blk for a 4.5 stroke, but i hate sleeves unless they are in an alum blk. which is made for them.

Default Tall blocks were all 366 & 427 Truck/Marine

I am in line with Juice on this also, it can be bored that much, the key is to have it sonic checked and mapped out for sure, that way you have no doubt what the status of the block is as far as any core shift, many had shift also.
I run a 427 tall deck truck block, .100 over and a 4.25 stroke, and get this (6.800 long rods :shock and it makes it almost like a 427 as far as the rod ratio goes which is 1.62 and mine is a 1.60, and I run my engine to 8000 rpm's and run 9's in a 3728lb. Elcamino and the cuin is a 505. It runs like a pissed off weasel for sure and man does it pull hard and launch too
I have obtained a block from a guy in Ohio also, brand new made for Bluebird bus company that has thicker walls for more bore jobs in there bus's, and well, they went to diesel and many were for sale, and let me tell ya, mucho bore on my block. It is a GM block also 427 style, but with thicker bores, that's all.

And Ed is darn near 100% right as almost all 427's were either pass car blocks of the 9.8 deck heigth, or, the Marine/Truck tall deck 10.2 version installed in many trucks, boats, buses, motor homes, and others. as well as 366 blocks that are good for anchors
My 2 cents worth.
