Starting problem

Default Starting problem

I have my engine in my car and it will start up with the key. But it will not shut of with the key any ideas? Its a ford 302 carbed in a 64 falcon. No msd or anything

I ran into this same problem on a friends truck and it was the starter solinoid.

Check to see if the solinoid is supplying power to the coil w/ the key off

Possibly the alt. is back feeding. Had on several GM vehicles. Take and start it, turn the key off, go and unplug the alt. If it shutts off it is then back feeding. To solve that auto parts stores sell a 1 way diode to hook inline with the ign. power wire.
