    6.2 chey diesel engine/motor home engine

    Anyone got an opinion on the early Chevy 6.2 diesel. the reason i'm asking is i'm lookig for a short motorhome, 26ft or less for towing a 26 ft inclosed trailer, i want only a class A style MH. There is one on ebay at a reasonalble price 27ft with 86,000 miles.
    I just don't know if the power is there to tow a 8,000lb trailer, car included. The ad says no problem to run 75mph on the freeway, but i have concerns when it is hooked to 8,000lbs plus.
    Has anyone been there? or is it just the wrong setup for pulling that much weight. I can't afford to spend about 10,000.00 and be left out in the cold with a unit that won't pull itself out of a driveway.
    any advice reguarding the 6.2 will be greatly appreciated.

    I don't think they were any good. Contact Heath diesel, they deal with nothing but 6.5 diesels but he will probably knowthem also. I don't think the 6.2 was turbo charged?

    Had a friend that had a 1 ton with the 6.2 in it. He pulled a 24' enclosed with a RED it was kind of a DOG on that chassis. With the xtra wieght of the MH chassis, if you get into any hills you may have a problem.

    I had a 6.5 TD in a 1 ton crew cab. That motor works very well with the turbo. 28' enclosed with a 3000# door car, was no problem! Not sure you would be happy with the 6.2 Whats the ad # on E Bay

    Just my thoughts

    I think both of you guys are right, it is an older motor home and not turbocharged, it's also a 1000 miles away.

    Here's the ad #260121729513 on ebay.

    After making this post i found a 27' Alegro about 100 miles away with a 454 chevy, 86, model @ $5,000.00. I know that will pull the trailer, also with a 3,000 lb door car.
    It's supposed to be very clean and everything is supposedly in good condition.

    Zipper, I got an 1989 Chevrolet C30 ramp truck with the 454 TBI and 4 speed..I can load a Suburban on it and get in the fast lane and peg the speedometer at 85 and it never hesitates..I can pass them all and keep going..Now the gas mileage is not great but oh hell it is just gas money for fun, right??

    Much better choice than the 6.2 diesel. I had an older MH like this one.It had a 454 BBC with a turbo 400. I did add 2 heavy springs in the rear spring pack. It did help out a lot with towing. The short wheel base, tend to get very light in the front when loaded.

    You can bet your fuel mileage will be 7 miles to the gallon. But the comfort out weighs the cost of fuel. Good luck with your purchase!

    After all the years towing with a pick up I would never go back to a pick up again. I have towed the last few years with a 2001 Georgie Boy Pursuit 35' on a F 53 chassis with a 6.8 liter v 10. It's up for sale at this time. Going to buy a diesel Holiday Rambler with a 300 HP Cummings

    My current ride is a 1993 chevy 3500 crewcab with 454, which i've had for 8 yrs. It pulls everything also @ 7mpg towing and 10.5 empty. i just wanted to be more comfortable at the track and especially when they have 2 and 3 day events, which we have a lot of around here. Right now we load the vehicles up and go to a motel leaving the trailer at the track. That's adds a couple hundred dollars more expense to the weekend.
    I once had an older 1975 28ft southwind with a 440, but sold it 10 yrs. ago, now i'm ready to go back to a motorhome.

    Yeah Zip, a motor home is the way to go for a 2-3 day race. Take all your food and drinks and when you park that is home for those 2-3 days.

    We used to have a motor home with a dodge engine...360 and it lost the oil pump at 10,000 miles and wasted the engine.

    Had a friend of the familys that raced roundy rounds rebuild it.
    LOL....that thing would roll smoke burn outs with dual wheels...what a hoot!!!!!!
