Isky cam for BBC
Hey, will this cam work ok with a 11.5:1 496?

The heads are Factory Oval ports, Ported, 2.25x1.88
The Intake is a Weiand Team G
2 1/8 long tubes
ATI 3600-3800 stall
4.10 rear gear with 28" tall tires
No carb yet,
Just worried this will be to much cam..
Thoughts?

Is this going to be a drag race engine? Or is this a duel purpose?

I still stand behind what I said,in my last statement,
That is a single pattern camshaft,I wouldn't use it myself,there are alot better special grind camshafts out there,this is one of your "off the shelf camshafts" I go with a special grind cam.
The duration on the cam looks somewhat close,but the lift is a bit away from what that 3600 lb car needs JMHO
Also I'd go with a duel pattern type grind camshaft if it were me :idea:

I agree, but I have the cam new in the box, and a new set of Howards direct lube lifters, Id hate to spend more money on a new cam if this cam will work ok, Has anyone ran this cam?
I dont want a snail, so Im open to suggestions..

It should work, although i'd recommend going with a roller cam vs a solid lifter cam.
I ran a roller cam that was bigger than that (.710i/680e, 278/276 duration @.050 lift) in a 488 ci bbc for several years with some ported iron rectangular port heads and it worked just fine. Was able to run a consistant 9.80 in a 3300 lb car.

I am going to have to disagree with my buddy Tom a little bit here.
It should work Ok but you will not have much vacuum if you have power brakes. Your bottom end accelleration will suck and throttle response at low speeds will suck.
I think that with a clutch and a 4 speed it would work a lot better than with an automatic.
To my way of thinking the lift is too low for the duration it is showing. Also did you notice that the gross lift is with rockers of 1.75? I think that it would really like some 1.90 rockers on the intake but those would have to be special made.
Did you notice the cam is recommended for DRAG, not street. That is becuase of the huge overlap.
With the large duration on the short LSA and the huge overlap it will lope like an old John Dear Tractor. That thing will probably still be loping while driving down the street below 3,500 rpm.
Like I said. I think it will work but will be a bear to drive unless you have low gears, big convertor.
I also doubt that your 1972 Chevelle will be weighing as low as 3,600 lbs. Those things only get lighter when they are gutted.
Will it work? - Yes.
Are there much better cams for it? - Tons.
Would I use it if I had to? - Yes. By installing it very advanced.
Will it work in a low compression engine for street driving - NO.
Will it work in a high compression engine for street driving ? - Much better.
Does it cost mure to replace it or use it? - More to use it.
