Default 427 engine

Does anyone have any thoughts on a 427 Tall Deck truck engine. I'm rebuilding one for my wife's 1948 Chevy pick up. The engine had a knock (bad wrist pin)and that is why the rebuild. It will be mostly stock, except for intake and thumper cam. We want a good reliable engine with a good sound. I welcome any feed back.

Have you into an EFI? That looks
Like the way to go on a street rod motor.

I have looked into EFI but decided to stay with the carb set-up for money reasons. We are not building for horse power, but for sound and reliability. I thought the thumper cam would give me the sound of a bigger motor and still be calm enough for cruising. Thanks for your reply.
