Are you asking about a Positive Crankcase Vent? If so, that is an emission device basicly. If you have a racing engine that this question pretains to, don't use it. It will bring oily air in to the intake and probably will build up on the intake valve back side that WILL hurt air flow. Stock engines have short run intervals and require this vent to remove condensate and fuel vapor from the oil in the crankcase to prolong its life. Race engines change oil often and don't like air leaks below the carb that the factory makes as part of there intake air. I hope this helps you with your question. If you are a stock engine basicly I prefer one with a heavy spring and a small opening to limit the velosity of the incoming air leak from the oily chamber below.
