The 1.76 gears themselves will be fine. The problem is the shortened output shaft. That leaves no ability for slight flex as a standard long shaft has. There are options... you can use a helical OEM 1.76 gearset in an aftermarket housing. They're around $225-250 plus the pins/etc. to assemble. Or, you can move to a complete aftermarket set. The best move IMO is to a 1.80 as it's much stronger than a helical set.
