The problem with all this stupidity is that they don't solve a single damned problem connected to Firearm related crime. They outlaw the manufacture and sale of an item, yet allow the use and possession of those already out there (Estimated to be somewhere between 1 and 2 million) and expect some kind of a different outcome than the last time they outlawed the same kind of weapon, more or less.
The same Laws apply to several illegal drugs. you can use 'em, and it's a misdemeanor if you're caught using but a felony if you're making or selling. We see how that "War" went . .
Back when Rudy Guilani was the Mayor of NYC, he started a "Zero Tolerance" on all small crime and demanded prosecution and hard time for all of those who got caught with "Illegal Firearms". (Pretty much anything that goes BANG!)
He cut NYC's homocide rate in half.
Now I don't hold with NYC's Gun Control Laws, but, if they would just hammer anyone caught with a "Stolen" gun that would change things a lot, I think. Like I've said in other posts, it's damned few guns that get bought legally at a gun store and then are used in holdups and drive bys . .
And Chicago is the opposite example of "Rigid Gun Control" in NYC . . It's against the law to own even a BB gun in Cook County, yet last year, they confiscated over 1500 "Illegal" guns from "criminals" in Chicago, and still, they had 504 gun related homocides. A new record. Know why?
They seldom prosecute anyone for having an "Illegal" gun in Cook County, and when they do, it's generally a probationary sentence . . So the bad thing about getting caught with a gun in Chicago is that you have to take up time going to court, and you have to buy another "Illegal" gun . .
If you already have laws in place, why not enforce them instead of create a crisis so you can bullsh*t the public some more . . ?
