If you talked to Don Enriqes at Hilborn and he recommended 12AS's i would never second guess his recommendations, he is definately the Hilborn Guru. I've know him for yrs. and have talked hrs. with him on the phone and emails. In my opinion there are 3 or 4 EXPERTS in the stacks injection field, the other 2 are Mark Kinsler, and if you want to run a little juice/nitro Spud Miller. There's lot's of people that know how to tune them, but these guys are standouts. I've been tuning stacks and running blown cars for 45 yrs. but everytime i talk to either of these guys i learn something. when it comes to blown alcohol, its Mert Littlefield and Ralph Gorr.
With that said, make sure you keep the butterflys at .002, anything more than that you'll milk the oil on idle, it needs to idle lean or you'll have to run an idle bypass, if you want to do that set it at 15lbs or less.
The reason i recommended larger nozzles is, if you had 8 clyinders it would equal bigger than a 355" motor. I've never ran a 2 1/16" system but have tuned a couple, but they were on gas.
Jimmy Smith, posted earlier, he has a set of 2 7/16" with 18AS nozzles. I used to own that injection and in fact made it into a 3 piece setup. Sat. nite he went 6 rounds and had 4--.698's, sun nite he went to the semi's in the .700 class. A tough, tough class, he qualifed #6 with a .7007, and broke out with a .69999, never had worse than a .702. Now this is a 3200 lbs car with a 355" with 13" slicks, with stacks on alcohol. That guy called me old in his post, He's 66 yrs. old and i'm 70 almost 71. Good thing i moved from Batesville Ms. to La. i can't wait to meet him at the tree, i'm gonna saw it down on him :P
A little patience and we can work this thing out.
