How hard are you leaving and what kind of street tires? Slicks will find the week link. I agree a 750double pumper will help it breath and definitely run faster & quicker but it will also shake the tires loose when you open it all the way(mechanical secondaries). You need both, just don't go w/ too wide of a tire. I had a 74 Nova SS 4-Speed car 400 smallblk. shortrod, dish piston, doublehump's, muncie, 4.10 10bolt back in the 1990's that ran mid 7.80's. Goodyear 10"slick, thats all I could get at the time. Was leaving at 3500rpm & either smoke the clutch or bust a u-joint. Pop told me "LEAVE HARDER", play w/ the tire press., that did the trick.
