Tyre shakes caused by not enough power to the ground. If that convertor has a 5000 stall you shouldn't be leaving at 1500. I'd say put a transbrake in there and use that convertor the way its meant...

You might want to check out the Holley website. There's a calculator for figuring out carb size. Most people use way to big.

I use a Moroso on my 632. Its tapped into the end of the valve cover so theres no rocker contact issues.

I'd say its the specific gravity thats the difference. Check out specific gravity on Google and it'll explain it best about needing bigger or smaller jets depending on the specific gravity.
