any info is appreciated
thanks logan

Both leaner mixture and increasing timing will increase exhaust temps.

ok thanks

not saying you are wrong but......

doesn't having the timing too late, retarded.....increase temps in the exhaust tract? instead of burning in the cylinder, the fire is started too late and is burning as the gasses are exiting..?

Maxpower has a point I think-

See previous thread Bruce commented on about Outlaws glowing header. Same principle. I too have seen this on circle track cars many times too (glowing headers)... I even had a similar problem with a XR400 dirt bike that ended up being too rich & made the header glow at idle. I think Bruce made a similar post then b/c I was making the problem worse... doing the opposite. He was right. His explanation even applies to the simplest of motors on a single cylinder motor cycle engine.

But then again maybe I am talking about two different things???

Exhaust temp VS late/ unspent gasses & ret timing??? I don't know... I am still learning. It would seem that lean & hot timing DOES also cause higher ext temp; but also a rich condition with lower timing can do it too... just by means of unspent fuel burning later in the ext tract.

how about posting some info on your combination...and where you are in regards to tune...timing and your fuel delivery, etc..
