To screw or not to screw
Just Got and installed new tires and wheels on the back of my Cutlass. Car weighs 3250 with me in it. pump gas 557/glide. 15x15 wheels/14.5-15 tires. tubeless No screws. Went 9.96 and 9.93 on 2 passes and the left moved about 2in and the right about 1/2in. Question is will they stop moving as some have said or continue to move. Lots of opinions on this but still at a loss on whether or not to use them. Hate to drill a new set of wheels.

IMHO I'd be drillin' and screwin' ! The LAST thing you want is a blown tire/rim seal on a hard launch    :shock:I'd certainly buy 'em from a reputable source in a good grade stainless steel (don't want them to be Chinese junk and shear on ya either) |

Tires will almost never slip the same amount between the inside and outside bead. This will put a twist in the tire causing all kinds of problems. With as much slip as you are getting you need to put screws in it. Here's a link to the M/t tech for rim screws.
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/tech.php?bulletin=s4 I have always just used the Moroso screws. http://moroso.com/catalog/categorydi...?CatCode=25001 |
**CRITICAL***
DEMOUNT the tires before drilling the rims !! Mark hole locations with a Sharpie and CENTER PUNCH each mark to prevent drill wander. |
Havent ran rim screws in years

I have a old 10.5 outlaw car, 120 60s and dont have no screws and just put a new set of 31-10.5 15w and they did not move inside or out. I have seen tho where tires have spun on rims that were new and only happen on ether the outside or inside. Just do what you think is best because its your but behind the wheel when something dose go wrong!
Better safe than sorry. |

Anything worth doing is worth doing right. Your screwed if you do and screwed if you don't. |
