KONI Electric Shocks

Does anyone use a voltage regulator (12v) for the KONI Electric Shocks to prevent damage for over voltage?

I have the older Yellow KONI Box and was told by someone who rebuilt my shocks that I need one. If so, what and where for the regulator?
