was wondering ad for car said gm closed chamber

zipper06 12-17-2009 01:08 PM

The closed chamber was introduced in the early 60's as casting #462 it took the place of the 461's to raise the compression ratio, it came with 1.950 IN and 1.5 EX valves it had 68 CC's VS 74 CC's, later it was introduced as casting # 186 and had 64 CC's and was used on the early 305 engines to replace the 993 casting. Neither worked very good except to raise the compression, the vales are pretty much shrouded, but make good low end torque.
But nothing would ever take the place of the 461's and the 461X's and the 492's that chevy made.
You can do a google search and see pics. and differences.
Hope this helps.

Zip.
