2.3L 4 cyl

Ok I know it is small but hey looking for some tips on build. Mainly in the head. Looking to build motor for a 3/8 mile 17 Degree banking track.

A lot of the guys that I talk to are using solid lifter, and basically a complete roller. Does any one know about what the max hp you can get out of one of these?

I am trying to find tricks or tips to try and be one step ahead of the next guy behind me. The other problem is, that a lot of them all use the same engine builder around here, so I don't think everyone is always getting what they pay for. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i posted this under engines:

in this months carcraft kenny duttweiler builds a 299sbc for a
400mph salt/flats pusher, they call it the baby rat:
a 8.5 inch deck dart block, crower steel 2.8 stroke crank,
crower rods w/9.5:1 diamond pistons, 4.125 bore, dart little chief heads 235cc rec ports, 2.30/1.55 valves, short duratkions duttweiler cam
w/0.850 lift, mild 1.62:1 rockers, EFI, turbocharged, and a hogan's sheet
intake. 1,450hp w/another 600hp with an additional 10psi, wow
they thinki it will do 430mph

"Small" engines can be deceitful. In 1972 Smoky Yunick built a 208 cubic inch small block Chevy for Indy. It was 3.875 bore x 2.200 sroke with a 6.250 rod. From 6,800 to 9,800 rpm, made over 1,000 HP on alcohol.
Now that's buzzing... Dave

I believe the engine this guy is refering to Dennis is the 2.3 ford used in mustangs and pintos and yes it is a OHC motor.
I know stock they are slugs but they can make decent power with the right parts.
Offenhauser makes a nice aluminum intake that you can slap a holley 4 barrel carb on it.

cepx, just showing him what can be done, if this can be done to
these motors, his 4 hole can reach extreme power, i have only
rebuilt a line 6 and added a bigger cam and it was awsome going
up hills
for a start, competition cams will grind cam for what you want,
and you know a bigger cam is a GOOD START 8)
