BBC horsepower help .

Guys, I've got a chance to buy a 454 with a 30 over bore and oval port heads . The motor was machined several years ago and never run , it has been sealed and stored in a climate controlled building until about a year ago and is not sitting in the owners personal garage . The motor has stock crank , new unknown flat top pistons and I'm assuming stock rods .
Now I'm not a motor person so can you guys tell what it would take to make this a 600-650hp motor . Just in case anyone is wondering I can buy this motor for $1200 . Thanks

454

There are at least six 454 engines in the classifieds that are between $500 and $1250, one is a 1970 HP. So I'd say you might find a better deal. Ads: 1676263, 1678659, 1673872, 1673482, 1672845, and 1670876. I'm sure there are others. Maybe there is one near you.

if buying new 4000 if buying used far less ...

454 11:1 comp, 675/700 lift roller cam and even pro comp heads, with a 4150 950 gas carb would for sure get it there ..

If he were going to get a corvette motor then a 350 would suffice for a measly 600 HP
