trans surging
ok i put new converter in my powerglide, i jack up the rearend and ran through the grears all was fine put it back in park gave it some gas and the car surge foward just a little, i jack it back up and checked the shifter cable and it was fine fired the car up again still on jack in park after about 30 seconds the rear wheels started spining what gives.

It's got to be a problem with the park pawl not engaging or not staying engaged, you'll have to drop the pan to check this out.

It moves forward about a inch when you hit in park? Its just a grunt you have some power.lol. All my glides have done it before

My glide does the same thing, it stays in park but lunges a bit and it's never caused me any problems.
IMO - With the motor and tranny securely tied to the frame like on a front/mid plate set-up I believe its just engine torque flexing the frame. Cp |
Did everyone miss the first post, he said after about 30 seconds the rear wheels starts spinning when it's on the jack stands? That cannot happen if the parking pawl is engaged, DUH!!

how do you repair the parking pawl, or does it have to be replaced.

You'll have to drop the pan with the linkage still hooked up and first see if it's engaging with the shifter in park. It's a spring loaded device and it's possible that the spring is broken, if the pawl is broken it's helt in with a roll pin and can be replaced, but again first you have too see what's going on.
