Acceptable offset between crank/trans input shaft

With all of the adapter bellhousings and plates, it seems that the crank and input shaft on the trans may not be perfectly centered with each other. That being said, what is an acceptable amount of offset between the two? If it matters, this would apply to th350/400 trans.

I don't know what the acceptable amount is but i can guarentee you if you have as much as .005 you will have a front seal leak very quickly after the trans is installed.

Thanks zip, is it an acceptable practice to use offset dowel pins with the auto trans?

The dowels are to compensate for an ALIGN BORE job on the mains that moves the crank up toward the camshaft. No offset is "normal" any thing else is off.
