My frist drag car build up

I am building my frist drag car it's 1986 olds cutlass with a 350 rocket I'm trying to deside if I should leave in the rocket or replace it with a sbc I'm kind of new to this stuff and would be greatful for any info on tips to use on this project

could be cheaper to build sbc, better access to parts. imo

I've got a brand new in the box Edelbrock timing chain I'll make you a great deal on. :D
I have an '83 cutlass that I raced for years stock. Even won a champioship with it. I have a 350 in the garage that I was going to build for it. But I built the altered instead.

Chevy engines are cheaper but it is cool to keep the same make of engine in the car if you can afford it.

Some oldsmobiles came with small block chevrolets.

sds10racer 11-01-2008 04:24 PM

yeah, they(olds) got sued for it in the late 70's.

olds

Another consideration is that you'll have to get another tranny if you switch from the Olds. If you are just starting out, you want to see all the costs that you can upfront. SBC are cheaper to build, but a BBC can make more power without getting too radical. That torque is the prime mover.

Go big block if you wanna go all out race. For a street/strip car go small block. Swapping over the chevy now will be cheaper than doing it later, after spending money on Olds parts. Only real cost difference between bbc and sbc is heads,Everything else is basically the same $$$.JMO

MAN!!!!!!!!!!! IS THAT YOU ERIC    OR IS IT AN IMPOSTER
GUYS I HAVE TO DISAGREE ON THIS--IF HE HAS AN OLDS TO START BRACKET RACING WITH- HE CAN DO VERY WELL FOR A FAIR PRICE TILL HE GETS MORE USE TO RACING AND DECIDES WHAT TYPE OF DRAGRACING HE REALLY WANTS TO DO

JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH
